Getting ready for ice skating. Here's the skirt and top cut froma Santa Hat.
As you can see, I cut the hat and cape from one Santa Hat and the top and skirt from the other Santa Hat.
I had a pom pom left over as well as some white fur. I cut open the pom pom just to see what was in it - just some tightly packed stuffing in a circle of white fur. As I looked at the circle and a strip of fur, I thought, "I wonder if I could make some earmuffs?" I did find a tutorial for shrinking a girl's headband to make one for a doll, but I haven't tried it yet. That's for another day.
Unfortunately, I didn't measure the pattern before I cut the top, so the top is a little small. I gave it to my granddaughter as it is, & I think it isn't all that bad, but she said she wished it was longer and maybe even a dress instead of skirt and blouse, but this is what she got.
If a make another one, I will make sure and enlarge the pattern first.
So, learn from my mistake and check your pattern size.
For the skirt, I turned under about 3/4" and sewed about a 1/2" casing. I just measured the doll's waist and used that length of 1/4" elastic to run through the casing to gather the skirt up. Sew the ends of the elastic together.
The bottom of the skirt is finished off like I did the bottom of the cape in the Santa Hat and Cape tutorial here.
Well, I decided the top needed some fur at the bottom, so I added some and took another picture. I think the top looks better.
So, play around with the skirt and top. You might even end up with a dress. For anything longer, or adding sleeves, you'll need another Santa Hat.
